With every great idea there are always problems. I’m going to be up front with you and tell you the truth about what will happen when I get to Congress.
The first thing new Congressmen do when they get to Washington is have a meeting with the majority leader of their party. In that meeting the new members are told that they will ONLY VOTE THE WAY THEY ARE TOLD TO VOTE! New members and many old ones are not allowed to vote what their constituency or their conscience may dictate. Welcome to Congress! New members of Congress who want to vote how they wish are told they will be appointed to the most worthless and least powerful committees. New members are always appointed to the least powerful committees so you can only imagine what committees you’d be placed on for bucking the system. You will also be told that if you do not play ball exactly as you are told you will NEVER get anything out of the Steering Committee. That’s a major threat! The Steering Committee decides which proposed pieces of legislation will make it onto the floor. Legislation – even good legislation – can spend years in the Steering Committee before it makes it onto the floor for debate. Not vote – first it’s debated and many/most times it’s returned to the Steering Committee for changes to be made.
So what does all this mean? If you vote for me I will not be on a great committee and I will be blocked from ever getting any legislation onto the floor for debate. This can be a good thing! I’m sorry, I believe we have too many laws that do nothing but take money out of our pockets. Most of the times it seems that our money is wasted by our government. Let’s face it – if there is a landmark piece of legislation that must be passed for the good of this country there will be a number of Congressmen attempting to get that legislation on the floor of Congress.
So that’s it, that’s what it’s all about. I don’t just want to represent you in the House of Representatives. I want your vote to be counted! If you want a chance to finally get your vote to count you should vote for me – Tom Croft.
